Ans. When he told her that he didn’t see her at first but he heard that she came in

3. What mistake did the man make? Why was it a mistake?

Ans. The man made a mistake by asking the girl what it was like outside. It was a mistake because people with proper eyesight usually don’t ask such questions and the girl may have found that the man was blind.

4. Why did the girl say to the man,”You are very gallant”?

Ans. The girl called the man gallant because he dared to compliment an unknown girl saying that her face was not only interesting but also pretty.

5. Why did the new fellow traveller tell the man,”It was her eyes I noticed, not her hair”?

Ans. The new fellow traveller told the man above lines because she had very beautiful eyes but she was completely blind.

(C) Think and answer:

1. Why did a man, getting into the compartment , stammer an apology?

Ans. When the girl was leaving the train , there was a mild collision between her and the man getting into the compartment. When the man felt that the girl was blind he stammered and then apologized.

2. Did the girl tell any lie?

Ans. No, the girl didn’t tell any lie because anywhere in the story she didn’t tell that she was not blind.
